Gunning for number 1

These two trainings will not be sufficient. Please do your own running and gym in this week. Next week fixture is very critical to our qualifying and playing form. Your effort is a step to team success. let's gun for number 1.

stay focus

Hey heats,
It was a good game on Wednesday. The spirit was good, the encouragement was fantastic. Let’s keep this momentum on. On the other hand, we need to microscope our weaknesses. I believe this way is the fastest way to improve and at the same time build on our current form.

3 points to highlight:
1. Individual defense: what was noted yesterday is that guards are helping the depth too much that we gave up a lot of open looks.

a. Rectification: adjust your help distance according to your opponent strength. i.e. if he is a shooter, don’t leave him.

b. Jump in early and square your defense to your opponent when the ball is kicked out for a shot. i.e. to recover your man defense before he gets the ball.

c. Shutter steps to challenge the shot

2. Recognizing the defense: it was noted that no one reads the change in defense when they are playing strong on big AL.

a. We have to read the defense and react to it. If they play strong defense on our guy, someone on our team must be opened up. Derek did great yesterday but it just wasn’t his day.

3. Denying the ball. Hardly there is a simultaneous effort. It was only Zachy doing the pressure on dead ball but no one was cutting off the passing lane.

a. Pressure the opponent when he picks up his dribble.

b. Everyone else should have their hands in the passing lane.

c. That should prevent him from both getting the ball and doing an easy back door.

d. Darren is super guilty for not pressuring the passer. I understand that the floor has friction. Then we got to put a little bit more effort to move. Just kidding!

e. It could have been more than 100 if we have done better in this department.

All in all, it was good improvement but far from our best. There is a lot of potential as everyone can see. We only need another game to be top of the group but we got to win all in this competition. Am I right? For those who know that they are not in the best form, please do something about it. Run, skip, gym. Whatever. We have more than a week before next round. Show the opponents we are determined to win it. Your improvement is encouragement to rest of us.

On a personal note, I have always wanted to write a mail to tell everyone about my absence. I think it is appropriate to write now because I don’t think I should affect the morale in any ways before the tournament starts. I think the team is doing great right now and please keep this up. My injury will sideline me for a few months at least. It took me 6 full months to pick up and just one knock to negate all the efforts.

Unless I have an operation, there is no such thing as full recovery. The chances of the shoulder popping out again are as high as 90% without one.

It did come to a point of quitting basketball altogether because I am keeping my family worried and spending lots of money on medical fees. On the other hand, I can’t because I have a group of friends whom I want to play basketball with. Worst still, I can’t play with them right now. I just can’t give up when I have waited for two years (and still waiting) and when I haven’t played with them in this tournament. The feeling is really terrible.

So for those who are fighting fit now, please cherish this chance because god knows what will happen tomorrow. You don’t get a team like this anywhere else. You don’t get friends to play the same passion anywhere else. So please cherish it. I think the only comfort I can get now is for the team to win the tournament. Stay focus, guys.

I also would like to take this chance to thank Xing Ru for being there for me whenever I get injured. This may sound gay, but I deeply appreciate that. Thanks a lot. Not just Xing Ru, thank you everyone for showing your care and concern for me. Thanks Zachy and Xing Ru again for quickly stepping in to assume the role for coordinating and as leaders of the team. You guys are doing a great job and even a better job than me.

So I shall end my long personal note here. Continue to stay focus and play hard for the team. I believe our team has what it takes to win this tournament. Please take good care of yourself and rest well. See you guys on Friday.

today training at chong pang is the same thing, only me xingru zhanghao kenny darren derek came down and i appreciate their attendance as always.

aw and ivan has informed me about their absence but not the rest; weiqiang,eugene,bingxin,johnny u guys never tell me anything nor pass any message to one of us.

i hope u guys just post about ur absence on the blog or hit me an sms for whatever reason u might haf( injuries, commitment elsewhere, etc ), and i will appreciate it deeply.
